Product Description
We were off to an early season with bud-break starting the last week of February. Growing conditions were ideal throughout the spring and summer months with no frost or heat spikes. Overall, the Zinfandel had a very strong set during bloom and uniform cluster formation as a result of a dry May. This meant great uniform maturity at harvest due to well formed clusters and consistent berry size. The Zinfandel harvest was later than average due to cool conditions throughout most of the summer. We began harvest around mid-September. In the winery, the fruit came in beautiful condition, there was very little soak up during the cold soaking process and the Brix levels remained stable. During that time we achieved incredible color and flavor extraction and fermentation completed in 12 - 14 days. This wine represents the best lots from our La Loma and Cypress blocks. These blocks are now getting into their 'twilight years' as far as vines go and their youthful fast paced production has begun to taper off. In the past, we have produced amazing single block designate wines from these two blocks but with the 2009 vintage we found that blending. them together gave us the spectacular profile we were looking for.
